On the long list of fun things that I get to do as Director of Alumni Relations, traveling to visit with alumni in other cities definitely comes in close to the top! I’ve just returned from a few fun, busy, and eye-opening days in the Big Apple.
A highlight of this trip was the “Bay to Brooklyners” event that came to life thanks to a fellow Class of 96-er, Matt Gill. Matt has lived in NY for the past 10 years and works in audio engineering. As part of this gig he is often called upon to mix the sound for live performances in New York clubs. Knowing that we have some amazing musical talent among our alumni population in NY, Matt came to me with the idea to coordinate a showcase to highlight these artists. And what an event it was! We joked that night was on shuffle as the bands ranged from a jazz trio to a heavy metal band and most genres in between. On the bill was: Shonali Bhowmilk’s 100 Oaks Revival featuring Matt Gill ’96; Becky Mimiaga (’05) Band; Jarrett Cherner ’99; House of Waters featuring Luke Notary ’96; and Madam Trashy featuring Jake Bloomfield-Misrach ’99 and Garth MacAleavey ’00.
Thanks to everyone who came out for Bay to Brooklyners – we hope you had a blast and hope to see you at “Bay to Brooklyners II” next April in NYC!
